Woman Charged After Dog Dies in Hot Car

A woman from Columbia faces charges after a dog died after being left in a hot car this past Sunday. 41 year old Billie McKie was charged with animal care and treatment. The dog was transported to a nearby emergency vet but later died from heat-related injuries. According to the Horry County Animal Care Center, the temperature outside at the time was 95 degrees. The shelter is urging the public to alert authorities if they see an animal inside of a hot car. The potential punishment for leaving an animal in a vehicle is up to 30 days behind bars or a $500 fine.
