Biden Calls to Drop Filibuster Rules to Pass Abortion Rights into Law

Yesterday, President Biden said that he would support making an exception to the filibuster in order to codify abortion rights and the right to privacy through legislation passed by Congress. Despite his announcement, his best bet in avoiding the filibuster would be next year if democrats gain at least two seats in the Senate and hold the House of Representatives. His comments yesterday mark the first time he’s expressed total willingness to eliminate the filibuster for abortion rights. The filibuster involves a 60 vote threshold in the Senate which is needed to pass most legislation. Currently, the Senate doesn’t have the 60 votes needed to codify Roe v Wade.
