HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra Pledges to Protect Reproductive Health Care

Yesterday during a news conference, US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra pledged to protect access to reproductive health care. Becerra said the department would like to work to increase access to medication abortion across the country and work with the department’s office for civil rights to protect patient and provider privacy. HHS will also examine the department’s authority in protecting clinical judgement of health care providers in treated pregnant patients and work on training clinicians in family planning. The center will also ‘take every legal step’ to provide access to family care planning. Becerra called the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade ‘despicable’ and said it ‘unconscionably put at risk the life and health of millions of our fellow Americans.’
