Runner Dies After Finishing Brooklyn Half-Marathon, 15 Others Hospitalized
One person died and 15 others were injured after completing the Brooklyn half-marathon on Saturday. A 32 year old runner died after crossing the finish line. He was found unconscious, lying on the pavement shortly before 9 a.m. in Brooklyn’s Brighton Beach neighborhood. He immediately received attention from on-site medical staff before being transported to Coney Island Hospital and was pronounced dead at about 9:45 a.m. An official cause and manner of death has not been released but is expected to be announced in the upcoming days according to New York City’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner. An additional 15 other individuals were transported to local hospitals from the race and at least four were in serious condition according to the New York Fire Department. The race took place during unseasonably hot weather, which it speculated to be the cause.
