Two Additional Earthquakes Reported Near Elgin, SC

Two more earthquakes were reported near Elgin South Carolina yesterday making a total of five in less than 24 hours. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the fourth quake had a 2.1 magnitude and occurred 3 miles east of Elgin at 6:06 p.m. and the fifth earthquake was reported as a 2.9 magnitude. That one happened around 11: 55 p.m. about four miles east of Elgin. The first quake of the day was reported as a 3.3 magnitude and took place around 1:30 a.m. yesterday. Two dozen earthquakes have been reported in the state since the end of last year, which is more than the average of 20 for an entire year according to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.
