Three Earthquakes Reported Near Elgin, SC
Three earthquakes were reported in South Carolina this morning. The first being a 3.3 magnitude earthquake that was reported by the United States Geological Survey shortly after 1:30 a.m. The epicenter of that quake was in Elgin which is about 21 miles northwest of downtown Columbia. People up and down the coast including the Midlands and the Pee Dee were woken up by the quake and reported feeling the earth shaking for several seconds and some even described what sounded like a heavy truck moving nearby. A second quake was reported at 4:39 a.m. in Elgin with a magnitude of 1.6, and a third was also reported near Elgin around 5:10 a.m. that was was registered at 1.79 magnitude.
