Before you turn the covers down and climb into bed, you may want to add music to your routine. A study from The Sleep Foundation shows those who listen to calming music report better sleep quality. The effect is immediate for all age groups. Also, the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society says those 60 and older have significantly better sleep when listening, versus those who nodded off in silence. It has to do with electrical signals music sends to our brains that lowers the stress hormone and gives us a dose of dopamine…the pleasure hormone. Look for music with less than 80 beats per minute, soft volume and smooth melody.
