The Key to Aging Gracefully Might Be All in Your Head

Research has shown that people with a more positive outlook are more likely to recover from severe disability, have a better memory, walk faster and live longer.

It seems like we’re always searching for anti-aging techniques…but, the real key might be in your mind. A Yale professor who’s studied the psychology of aging for decades says older people with more-positive perceptions of aging performed better physically and cognitively than those with more-negative perceptions. In her studies, she would routinely ask people to think of words to describe an older person. In the U.S., the most common answer was “memory loss.” But, in China, it was “wisdom.” Research has shown that people with a more positive outlook are more likely to recover from severe disability, have a better memory, walk faster and live longer.
