Federal Judge Overturns Travel Mask Mandate

Yesterday, a federal judge in Florida overturned the Biden administration’s mask mandate for airplanes and other transport methods. U.S. District Judge Kathryn Mizelle said the mandate was unlawful because it exceeded the statutory authority of the CDC and because it’s implementation violated administrative law. According to a statement from President Biden, “the agencies are reviewing the decision and assessing potential next steps,” and “TSA will not enforce its security directives and emergency amendment requiring mask use on public transportation and transportation hubs at this time. The CDC recommends that people continue to wear masks in indoor public transportation settings.” Last week, the CDC extended the mandate which applied to airplanes, trains and other forms of public transportation through May 3rd.
