Biden Administration Preparing for Possible Increase of Migrants at United States/ Mexico Border
The Biden Administration is preparing for the potential of a mass migration to the United States/Mexico border. Border authorities have been relying on a public health order called ‘Title 42’ to turn away migrants at the border since March 2020 but talks of eliminating that order have been happening amongst members of the Biden Administration. It’s estimated that around 170,000 people could come through the border within hours or days of elimination of that order and about 25,000 migrants are already in shelters in Mexico. The Department of Homeland Security has set up a ‘Southwest Border Coordination Center’ at it’s headquarters to coordinate across multiple agencies. In February, U.S. Border Patrol made more than 158,000 arrests, those figures include people who tried crossing more than once and arrests are expected to ramp up during the warmer months like past years.
