7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Fukushima Japan

Four people have died and over 100 others were injured after a deadly 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan’s Fukushima prefecture yesterday. The quake hit the same region that was devastated by another powerful quake and tsunami 11 years ago that resulted in a nuclear power plant meltdown. Yesterday’s quake was originally reported as a 7.3 magnitude but was upgraded to a 7.4 today. A tsunami advisory was issued after the quake for the costal prefectures of Fukushima and Miyagi but was lifted and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said ‘no abnormalities’ had been detected at any of the country’s nuclear plants. About an hour after the quake an 8-inch tsunami occurred along the coastline of Miyagi according to Japan’s Meteorological Agency which urged people living near the coast to stay away. Also, a bullet train derailed near Fukushima and 78 people were trapped for four hours after the derailment, thankfully they escaped through an emergency exit unharmed..
