Pfizer Applies for Emergency Use Authorization for 4th Vaccine Dose for Adults 65+, Doug Emhoff Tests Positive
Pfizer and BioNTech has submitted an application to the FDA for emergency use authorization of an additional booster dose of their vaccine. The additional dose would be administered to adults 65 and older who have already gotten a booster dose of any of the authorized or approved vaccines. The submission is based on two data sets from Israel that ‘showed evidence that an additional mRNA booster increases immunogenicity and lowers rates of confirmed infections and severe illness.’
In other coronavirus news, Yesterday it was announced that Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, has tested positive for Covid-19. Harris however, tested negative and will continue testing daily. Emhoff’s positive test is the first known case of the virus among the first or second families since President Biden and Vice President Harris took office in January of last year. In a statement on Twitter, Emhoff said his symptoms were ‘mild’ and that he is ‘grateful to be both vaccinated and boosted.’ Harris’ appearance at the ‘Equal Pay Day’ event at the White House last night was canceled as a precaution.
