United States Senate Passes USPS Bill With 79-19 Vote

Yesterday, the Senate passed a bipartisan bill to overhaul the USPS’ finances and allow the agency to modernize it’s operations. With a final vote of 79 to 19, the bill will head to President Biden’s desk for signature. The ‘Postal Service Reform Act’ will require retired postal employees to enroll in Medicare when eligible, while dropping a previous mandate that forces the agency to cover its health care costs years in advance. Those two measures will save the USPS nearly $50 billion over the next decade. The legislation also requires the USPS to create an online dashboard with local and national delivery time data among other things.
