Florence Neighbors Spreading Kindness by Creating List of Resources for Needy

When someone is in crisis, having options at their fingertips can make all the difference.

We pause on each Wednesday to observe all the good around us from around the world to our backyards. We’ve partnered with the Maguire Law Firm to bring you Carolina Kindness.

We begin in Florence with a person who knows the importance of resources and is now trying to help others who need help.  Meet Robbie Taylor.  Robbie knows the importance of having choices in life, no matter the situation.  Robbie witnessed how resources of organizations such as hospice and mental health professionals can make a difference in a person’s life.  Robbie wrote a poem that pays tribute to her mom’s journey.  Now she and her neighbors are gathering resources in the Florence community to hand out full on information and resources for a host of things.  When someone is in crisis, having options at their fingertips can make all the difference.  To hear more of Robbie Taylor’s story click here.

A father and son experienced how a small act turned into something bigger.  Justice Smith and his 5-year-old were coming back from the dentist when they noticed a homeless man.  Justice said he noticed the man but did nothing because he had no cash. At the same moment, unprompted, his son pulled out 30 cents from his pocket. Mr. Smith said battled in the moment with his pride and the unknown reaction of the homeless man receiving just two coins. Then he realized he was standing in the way of of his son offering to give everything he has to offer in this moment. It turned into a teaching moment for the dad, and a joyous response from the man receiving the two coins.  The only thing that matched the brightness of that stranger’s smile was the bigger one on his son’s face!

Students and faculty at the Robeson County Community College know the importance of acts of kindness.  They recently dedicated a day just for doing just that!  It doesn’t cost a thing to encourage others.   A table with construction paper and markers were out for anyone to stop by and write a note, and decorate a card to encourage each other.  One of their on campus organizations “SHOP” (students helping other people) delivered all those notes. A staff member who was a recipient of one of those kind notes reports it was awesome watching kindness spread across the campus!
