Three Ex-Minnesota Police Officers Found Guilty of Violating George Floyd’s Civil Rights

A Minnesota Federal Jury found 3 former Minneapolis Police Officers guilty of violating the civil rights of George Floyd. The 12 person jury consisting of four men and eight women deliberated for two days before reaching the verdict. Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao were found guilty of depriving Floyd of his civil rights by showing deliberate indifference to his medical needs as former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than 9 minutes ultimately killing him. The jury also found Thao and Keung guilty of an additional charge for failing to intervene to stop Chauvin. Lane testified that he asked Chauvin twice to reposition Floyd while restraining him but was denied both times. The three men are expected to begin pre-sentencing proceedings next week and remain bond free.
