Former North Carolina Police Chief Anthony Spivey Arrested in Horry County

A former North Carolina Police Chief was arrested near Loris. Former Chadbourn Police Chief Anthony Spivey was reported missing on Monday after he failed to return from a fishing trip on Lumber River near Fair Bluff. Two dive teams searched for Spivey on Monday after his truck was found near the Sand Hills Hunting Club. He was presumed to have drowned and family members said he left a note in the truck ‘saying his goodbyes’. Last Spring, Spivey was relieved of duty due to a misconduct investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations and faced more than 70 felony charges including embezzlement and drug charges. Spivey was arrested earlier this week after the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office learned he was hiding at his aunt’s home in Horry County. He was charged with failing to appear in court as well as additional charges and is expected to be extradited to Columbus County.
