Canadian Government Revokes Emergencies Act In Connection to Freedom Convoy Protests
The Canadian government has revoked the Emergencies Act that was enacted 10 days ago to deter protesters. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the law was put in place to deal with an ‘acute’ emergency and meant to be proportional and time-limited. According to Trudeau, smaller protests remain across the country but police have the tools they need to continue to deal with unlawful protesters. As of late yesterday afternoon, there was a heavy police presence in Ottawa with several checkpoints. The protests began in the nation by a group of truckers called the ‘Freedom Convoy’ who were protesting vaccine mandates.
