Fourth Covid-19 Vaccine Possible for United States in Upcoming Months

The United States is joining growing a list of nations discussing the possibility for a fourth Covid-19 vaccine. Leading health officials say they are ‘very carefully’ monitoring if or when the dose might be needed. Israel was the first nation to offer the fourth dose to adults 60 and older, medical workers and people with compromised immune systems. The Public Health Agency of Sweden announced last week a second booster dose recommended for everyone 80 and older. On Monday, the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care announced an extra dose will be offered in the Spring to adults 75 and older, residents in care homes for older adults and immuno-suppressed people 12 and older. Here in the U.S. officials emphasized late last year that the fourth dose is not yet needed and said it was too premature to be discussing a potential fourth dose of the vaccine for most people.
