One Dead, Five Others Injured in Shooting After Protest in Portland

One person is dead and five others are injured after a shooting on Saturday in Portland. Officers responded to calls near the Rose City Park neighborhood around 8 pm. According to a police news release “the scene was extremely chaotic, and a number of witnesses were uncooperative with responding officers, most on the scene left without talking to police.” The shooting started with a confrontation between an armed homeowner and armed protesters that were gathered in Normandale Park on Saturday to protest the killing of 22 year old Amir Locke, an African American man who was fatally shot earlier this month in Minneapolis during a no-knock warrant. Authorities did not provide a motive or who may have been responsible for Saturday’s shooting and police are asking for the public’s help. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, two men and three women were injured and transported to area hospitals with their status’ unknown.
