Family of ‘Rust’ Shooting Victim Halyna Hutchins Files Lawsuit
A wrongful death lawsuit has been opened against Alec Baldwin and film producers in connection to the fatal shooting on the set of ‘Rust’. The family of Halyna Hutchins filed the suit in Santa Fe which alleges numerous industry standard violations by Baldwin and others charged with safety on the set. Hutchins was fatally shot and killed last October as Baldwin practiced a scene for the movie. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the shooting. The suit claims the production companies and producers ‘cut corners’ and ‘chose to hire the cheapest crew available’ noting that they ‘knowingly hired a wholly unqualified armorer’ and required her to split time in a second role as assistant props master. Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, prop master Sarah Zachry and assistant director Dave Halls are also named in the suit. In a separate lawsuit, Gutierrez Reed is suing the film’s gun and ammunition supplier, accusing them of mixing up dummy rounds with live ammo.
