Happy Valentine’s Day from the Carolina AM Kitchen!

Greg helps Lois put some of the finishing touches on her three layer Valentine's Day cakes!

Lois Rycx stopped by the Carolina AM set with festive treats that are sure to impress all of your loved ones! Greg helps Lois put some of the finishing touches on her three layer cakes before they are ready to decorate!

Here’s how to replicate!

Cut parchment rounds to fit in the bottom of 6” cake pans. Spray the parchment and sides with cooking spray. Evenly divide the prepared mix into three containers. Lois used classic white cake mix for top layer, a strawberry flavored mix for the pink layer and a red velvet cake mix for the dark red. Bake until a cake tester comes out clean. If your cakes “dome”, meaning they rounded and not flat” but, don’t worry! Put more parchment paper on a rack for cakes to cool on. Add another piece of parchment on top then a cutting board n heavy objects on it to “squish” them. Remove the weights and parchment after about an hour. Leave uncovered on counter to dry out just a bit so they don’t crumble when icing.

Next, place plastic straws through the cakes for stability. Cut them off level with cake one all three are stacked.

Then, Lois used canned white frosting and sifted some confectionery sugar to stiffen the icing up a bit. Stack the cakes and continue covering in icing. Finally, use a spatula or a bench scraper to give the “naked” look. Decorate as you see fit and enjoy!
