How to Add Years to Your Life
A study published this month shows how a Mediterranean diet could add up to 13 years to our lives.
The study created a model of what might happen our longevity if we replaced a typical “western diet” focused on red meat and processed foods with an optimized plant one such as the Mediterranean diet. Here’s what they found. The younger you start this the more years you can add, up to 13. So obviously starting in your 20’s maximizes the benefits. Those in their 60s could extend their life span by 9 years. Starting in your 80s could yield an extra 3.5 years. This study was published in the journal PLOS Medicine.
