2022 Winter Olympics Update: Mikaela Shiffrin Crashes Out, Lindsey Jacobellis Wins Gold For Team USA
Now for an Olympic update… Mikaela Shiffrin crashed out for the second time during the Winter Olympics yesterday. Just two days after she crashed out of her first run on her first event Monday, Shiffrin also failed to make it past five gates in yesterday’s slalom after skiing off line seconds into her attempt. Shiffrin came to the games in Beijing with hopes of making history as the first U.S. Alpine Skier to win three medals at a single Winter Olympics. Prior to the games she had recorded just two DNF’s in the last four years and now she has two in three days.
In more Team USA news, Snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis won a gold medal in the women’s Snowboard cross big final yesterday marking the first gold for the United States. The 2022 games are the fifth Winter Olympics Jacobellis has competed in, she said “this feels incredible because this level that all the women are riding at is a lot higher than it was 16 years ago.” Jacobellis is the most-decorated Snowboard Cross athlete with five world titles, two world cup crystal globes and eight x-games titles. Currently, Team USA has 1 gold, five silver and one bronze.
