Senators Manchin, Murkowski Agree Reform is Needed on Electoral Count Act

Yesterday, Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski signaled optimism about their work to reform the Electoral Count Act with Manchin saying it will ‘absolutely’ pass. The lawmakers are part of the bipartisan effort focused on making changes to a 19th century law known as the Electoral Count Act that was intended to give Congress a process by which to certify the Electoral College votes submitted by states. The bill has been brought to light after former President Trump tried to overthrow the 2020 election. According to sources involved in the effort, it is still in its early stages and drafting legislation and finalizing a bill will take weeks if not months.
