Protests Over Covid-19 Regulations Continue in Canada

Protests in Canada over a number of Covid-19 regulations continue… They first began almost two weeks ago when truckers drove into the heart of Ottawa on January 29th to protest new Covid-19 vaccine and testing requirements. More demonstrations with trucks idling in roads took place over the weekend. In Toronto, trucks blocked a major intersection for hours, while protests also erupted in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Quebec City. More than 60 criminal investigations are underway and most involve alleged hate crimes, property damage, thefts and more. Ottawa’s city council is expected to meet today after Mayor Jim Watson declared a State of Emergency because of the ‘Freedom Convoy’ protests. In a statement Watson said “declaring a State of Emergency reflects the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other jurisdictions and levels of government.”
