Octopus Sighting in North Myrtle Beach
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources shared a rare sight along the Grand Strand! According to the agency, a woman identified as Heather Leon and her mother were walking along the water’s edge in North Myrtle Beach when they noticed the creature. The agency identified the mollusk as a Common Atlantic Octopus. It was resting in shallow water, while warming itself in the sun! SCDNR said the Atlantic Octopus is native to local waters but are rarely seen near the shore.
