Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer Announces His Retirement

Justice Stephen Breyer is expected to announce his plans for retirement today alongside President Biden. The 83 year old will stay on until the end of the court term and until a replacement is confirmed. Breyer informed the President of his plans last week. The court currently has six conservative justices appointed by Republican Presidents and three liberals appointed by Democrats. During his campaign, Biden vowed that if he were to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court, he would fill it with an African American female which would represent a historic first for the high court.
