Signs and Symptoms of Burnout

Do you work until you're exhausted? Is your creativity suffering? It's probably burnout.

A new year can mean a fresh start on everything.  No better time to get your health and mindset on track.  But this can also be a time when many experiences overwhelm at the thought of adding something like a resolution.  As many are starting the year in burnout.  We’re here to bring you a self check and ideas on what to do about it, if you are.

If you are frequently working until you’re exhausted you might be overdoing it.  How about those to-do lists.  Does the thought of adding one more thing paralyze you?  And another clue may be to take a look at the work you are doing.  Does it meet your usual expectations?  If you recognize these in yourself lately, you may be starting the year burnt-out. If you find yourself in exhaustion, do not worry.  There are some things you can do today to begin turning things around. Pull out your calendar and look for ways to cut corners and free up a little space.  Can you combine exercise and seeing your friend by taking a fitness class together?  Also learn how to say no. If you’ve already over-committed you can back out if you give enough advance notice.  Instead, offer an alternative or a simple explanation, but hold off on excuses. Now that you have cleared out some space, budget some time to relax.  Whether that’s in the form of meditation, listening to a new album, gentle yoga stretches or a quick run.  Regular exercise and a healthy diet are also key to staying healthy, both inside and out.  A lot of folks, especially us women, feel guilty about carving out time for ourselves.  But remember you have to keep the machine oiled.
