Robeson County Sheriff’s Deputy Dies While On-Duty

Welton Locklear of Pembroke fell ill of a heart attack in a church parking lot.

A Robeson County sheriff’s deputy died yesterday afternoon while on-duty assisting a funeral escort. The officer identified as 63 year old Welton Locklear of Pembroke fell ill of a heart attack in a church parking lot and was given CPR by members of the church. He was rushed to UNC Southeastern Hospital in Lumberton where he died. Locklear began his career with the Robeson County as a detention officer in 1994.
