Phone Call Between President Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin Scheduled This Afternoon

President Biden will hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin this afternoon to discuss a ‘range of topics, including upcoming diplomatic engagements with Russia.’ The call will take place today at 3:30 p.m. and according to officials, it was requested by Putin and Biden accepted because he believes ‘when it comes to Russia there is no substitute for direct leader to leader dialogue.’ During the call, President Biden plans to preview the upcoming in person talks between the U.S. and Russia which are scheduled for January 10th and discuss the NATO-Russia and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe meeting scheduled for the 12th and 13th.
