Florence One School Board Votes in Favor of Zero-Tolerance Policy

Yesterday the Florence One School board voted to pass a zero-tolerance policy for students who fight on school grounds. Under the new policy, any student who fights and students who assault staff members will be expelled. Students who threaten staff members will also be sent to an alternative school for four to five days. Superintendent Dr. Richard O’Malley proposed the policy in November and said during the discussion of the policy, over the past two weeks the number of fights at FS1 decreased by 62%. Officials with the school said there were 225 fights reported in the first 90 days of the school year.
