Jurors began the third day of deliberations today in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. 18-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse is at the center of debates around self-defense, gun ownership and Black Lives Matter demonstrations. Rittenhouse who states he acted in self defense is being tried for five felony charges related to the fatal shooting of two people and the wounding of another during last year’s unrest in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The 12-person jury deliberated for 16 hours over two days in which they have asked the court questions and requested to rewatch video evidence of the shootings. One of those videos was a drone video at the heart of the defense request for a mistrial. Defense attorneys for Rittenhouse say they discovered they had been given a lower quality version and only discovered the discrepancy after testimony ended so asked the judge to declare a mistrial and filed a motion for mistrial with prejudice.
