General Powell Laid to Rest in Washington D.C.
The late general Colin Powell is being honored today at a private funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral. Powell died on October 18th from complications of the Coronavirus at the age of 84. Powell was fully vaccinated against the virus but had Multiple Myeloma and Parkinson’s and was immunocompromised which put him at greater risk. Family, friends and numerous military and congressional leaders will be in attendance as well as President Biden, first lady Jill, former President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle, former President George W.
Bush, first lady Laura and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Powell was the first African American man in U.S. history to serve as National Security Adviser to former President Reagan and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for former President George H.W. Bush. He also became the first black U.S. Secretary of State when he was sworn in under President George W. Bush and is the highest ranking black public official to date in the country.
