Covid-19 Deaths Surpass 5 Million Globally

According to data from Johns Hopkins University the number of people who have died from the Coronavirus around the world has surpassed five million. The global tally reached 5,000,425 at 4:50 this morning with 197,116 people having died from the virus in the last 28 days. The total number of cases officially reported globally since late 2019 when it was first detected in Wuhan has reached 246.7 million. Last Thursday the World Health Organization warned that global cases and deaths are increasing for the first time in over two months. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said “it’s another reminder that the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over.” Noting that the increases in Europe outweigh decreases everywhere else and that 80 times more tests and 30 times more vaccines have been administered in high-income countries versus low-income countries.
