President Biden Meets With Pope Francis in Italy

This morning, President Biden and Pope Francis held a 90 minute meeting at the Vatican. The engagement between the two was ‘very warm when the delegation arrived in the room, there was laughter and clear rapport between Biden and the Pope.’ According to the White House, the president thanked the Pope for his ‘advocacy for the world’s poor and those suffering from hunger, conflict and persecution.’

Following the 90 minute one-on-one meeting President Biden participated in an expanded bilateral meeting with several members of his administration as well as Pope Francis and Vatican officials. Currently, for the first time, since a major diplomatic clash, President Biden is meeting with French President Emanual Macron.
