Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Announces Companies New Name

Yesterday Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company will be changing it’s corporate name to Meta. The company formerly known as Facebook said in a press release that it also plans to begin trading stocks under name MVRS on December 1st. The name change demotes the company’s namesake service to being just one of the three company’s subsidiaries along with Instagram and Whatsapp rather than an over-arching brand. The name change was announced by Zuckerberg during the company’s virtual reality and augmented reality conference ‘Facebook Connect’.

Zuckerberg said “I’ve been thinking a lot about our identity as we begin this next chapter. Facebook is one of the most used products in the history of the world, it is an iconic social media brand, but increasingly it just doesn’t encompass everything that we do. Today we’re seen as a social media company, but in our DBA, we are a company that builds technology to connect people. And the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started.”
