Thousands are Without Power in Massachusetts, Rhode Island
Following the powerful Nor’easter that blew through the East Coast earlier this week, crews are working to restore power in some of the hardest hit areas. Thousands in New England woke up in the dark yesterday as Massachusetts was hit heaviest with outages and nearly 500,000 homes and businesses lost power at some point according to Governor Charlie Baker. Today, there are still about 348,000 customers without power. The entire state of Delaware, significant parts of the Jersey shore and southern areas of Long Island are currently under coastal flood advisories through this evening.
During a press conference yesterday Governor Baker said “National Grid and Eversource and the other utilities are already working to restore power where they can. But in some cases, they do need to wait until the winds come down before it’s really going to be safe to get up into a bucket truck.” Before the storm, New Jersey and New York declared states of emergencies and according to the National Weather Service Newark, New Jersey saw more than three inches of rain and Central Park measured 2.73 inches.
