Affidavit Details Accidental Shooting on Alec Baldwin Movie Set

More details following the fatal accident on the set of Alec Baldwin’s movie ‘Rust’ have been revealed. According to the film’s director, Joel Souza, who was injured in the incident, the shot that killed cinematographer 42 year old Halyna Hutchins was fired as Baldwin was practicing drawing his gun. Souza was shot in the shoulder and spoke to investigators on Friday according to an affidavit released by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Souza said Baldwin was ‘sitting in a pew in a church building setting, and he was practicing a cross draw.’ He added that he heard the term “cold gun” on set meaning the firearm should have been empty.

Souza said he was looking over Hutchins’ shoulder ‘when he heard what sounded like a whip and then a loud pop.’ He added Hutchins ‘complained about her stomach and grabbed her midsection’ after the shot was fired. Medics treated Hutchins at the scene before she was taken to a hospital where she later died. Both Souza and camera operator Reid Russell acknowledged difficulties on set that day because of a walkout of some members of the camera department over payment and housing.
