Prop Gun Misfires on Alec Baldwin Movie Set Killing One Person and Injuring Another
One person died and another was injured after a prop gun was discharged on a movie set in New Mexico yesterday. The director of photography 42 year old Halyna Hutchins died and the movie director 48 year old Joel Souza was injured after Alec Baldwin discharged a prop firearm on the set of the movie ‘Rust’. Hutchins was transported to the hospital via helicopter but was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the University of New Mexico Hospital according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Souza was transported to Christus St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center by ambulance for care. Details on his condition have not been released.
Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged from the prop gun. The incident occurred around 1:50 pm. ‘Rust’ is a western film set in the 1800s that stars Baldwin. The investigation remains open and no charges have been filed.
