Florence County Council Approves $1 Million in Funding For Two Fire Departments
The Florence County Council approved nearly $1 million in funding from it’s penny sales tax for two fire departments in the area yesterday. Some of the funds will go to replacing Olanta Rural Fire Department Station Two in Scranton with $25,000 approved to purchase land for the location of a new station. Chief Jimmy Coker said the new station will ‘house a pumper, tanker, brush truck and other items they need.’ The Howe Springs Fire Department was also approved for funding and they’ll receive two tanker trucks and a rescue vehicle totaling $959,000.
