Tuition Free Community College to be Excluded from Economic Package According to Biden

President Biden told Democrats in the House yesterday that the final economic package bill is expected to drop tuition free community college. According to a source familiar with the talks the President discussed a $1.75 to $1.9 trillion price tag for the spending package which is closer to the $1.5 trillion number proposed by Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Biden also indicated that the Child Tax Credit would likely be extended for one additional year which is much shorter than many Democrats wanted and the Child Tax Credit will also likely be tested keeping with what Manchin wanted.

The President also indicated he would reduce funding for so-called homecare for the elderly and disabled to less than $250 billion though Democrats wanted to keep the funding at $400 billion. He also told lawmakers that negotiators are weighing reducing paid leave in the package to four weeks, down from a proposed 12 weeks.
