Coroner Identifies Man Found in Great Pee Dee River

A man whose body was recovered by officers with SCDNR on Sunday from the Great Pee Dee River off of Highway 378 in Florence County has been identified. Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the man as 43 year old Stanley O’Neal Pickett of Myrtle Beach. Captain Benjamin Byers with SCDNR said officers had been searching the river for the man since he wrecked his pick up truck on September 27th. On the 27th, officers were called to an area near the Florence and Marion County line around 11:21 pm. Pickett’s body will be autopsied at the Medical University of South Carolina and the incident is being investigated by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
