Justices Back in Washington D.C. to Begin Fall Term

Members of the Supreme Court are reconvening in Washington D.C. today for the start of their Fall term. In the upcoming months, the justices are scheduled to tackle abortion, the second amendment, religious liberty and affirmative action. Several of the justices have began a campaign in recent weeks to convince the public that they are not ‘partisan hacks’ but that they are divided by their judicial philosophies.

Earlier this month, Amy Coney Barrett rejected claims that decisions by the high court are driven by political views during a speech at the University of Louisville’s McConnell Center. Coney Barrett said “judicial philosophies are not the same as political parties.” All of the justices except Brett Kavanaugh are expected to be on the bench today and it will make Barrett’s first full term on the court and potentially the grand finale for Justice Stephen Breyer should he retire this Spring.
