Top Military Official Faces Senate, House Committees
This week, top U.S. General Mark Milley appeared before congress to defend the Pentagon’s decision made in Afghanistan. Republican lawmakers voiced their frustration with Milley for his cooperation with a number of reporters whose recent books about the Trump administration painted a damaging portrait of his final months in office. They also spoke about the revelation that he reassured his Chinese counterpart after intelligence revealed Beijing was worried that former President Trump might launch an attack.
They also accused him of violating the chain of command. Lawmakers in both the Senate and House committees also reprimanded him for the damaging photo op he engaged in with Trump as troops cleared protestors from a small park in front of the White House violently.
