$32 Million in Grants Awarded to South Carolina Crime Victims
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson held a news conference yesterday in Florence. Wilson announced the awarding of $32 million in grants that will go towards helping victims of crime in South Carolina. The grants will be distributed by the Department of Crime Victim Assistance Grants in the Attorney General’s office. There are three types of grants including, Victims of Crime Act grants, Violence Against Women Act grants and State Victim Assistance Program grants. The SC Public Safety Coordinating Council formally approved the grants earlier this year and the projects are expected to begin on October 1st. They will be distributed to private non-profit groups, Sheriff’s offices, Police departments, solicitor’s offices and state agencies.
