Top U.S. Gymnasts Provide Testimonies in Larry Nassar Investigation
Several of the top U.S. gymnasts who were abused by Larry Nassar testified yesterday during a Senate hearing. Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney, Maggie Nichols and Aly Raisman provided details on how the FBI botched it’s investigation into allegations against Nassar and the intimidation that came from the sport’s governing bodies. They also called out the system that ‘failed them.’
The testimonies were before the Senate Judiciary Committee and gave a new light to how those who had turned a blind eye to the abuse have yet to be held fully accountable. Raisman said she finally got to speak with the FBI 14 months after reporting her allegations against Nassar despite repeating her requests for interview several times. Raisman also said she had been pressured to accept a plea deal that was being proposed. Maroney also recalled details of Nassar’s abuse and said an agent hadn’t contacted her for an interview until 2017 after reporting him in 2015.
