Texas, Louisiana Prepare for Storm Impact as Tropical Storm Nicholas Nears
Warnings have been issued for Texas and Louisiana as Tropical Storm Nicholas makes it’s way to the region. The National Hurricane Center said after having slowed to almost a standstill in the Gulf of Mexico, the storm could strengthen significantly and issued a hurricane watch from Port Aransas to Freeport Texas where hurricane conditions are expected over the next 48 hours as the storm could bring sustained winds of at least 74 mph. A 2 to 5 feet storm surge forecast has also been issued for parts of Texas and Louisiana and a storm surge warning is in effect from Port Aransas to San Luis Pass Texas and for Aransas Bay, San Antonio Bay and Matagorda Bay. As of this morning, Nicholas had sustained winds of 60 mph and was 40 miles south-southeast of the mouth of Rio Grande according to the hurricane center.
