Tropical Depression Mindy Makes Landfall in Florida Panhandle Overnight
After forming in the Gulf of Mexico, Tropical Depression Mindy made landfall over St. Vincent Island in the Florida panhandle last night. According to the National Hurricane Center the storm had weakened to a Tropical Depression with winds of 35 mph by the time it reached the southern part of Georgia around 5 a.m. this morning. It is expected to bring scattered flash flooding, rains and a few tornadoes as it makes it’s way up the coast and continues out to sea later today. Flash flood watches were in effect this morning for portions of the panhandle and southern Georgia as the storm could drop anywhere from 2 to 6 inches of rain in parts of Georgia and the Palmetto State which could lead to flooding. It is also expected to carry wind gusts of at least 39 mph according to the hurricane center.
