New Orleans Lifts Curfew as Parts of the State Remain Without Power

Yesterday, New Orleans lifted it’s curfew that had been in place since Hurricane Ida made landfall in the state two weeks ago. That’s not the only good news though, according to Mayor Latoya Cantrell, as of yesterday afternoon power had been restored to 83% of the city with a goal that energy provider ‘Entergy’ would hit 90% by last night. As of early this morning, more than 250,000 customers in the state including homes and businesses were still in the dark according to poweroutage.us. Power in some of the hardest hit areas may not be restored until the end of the month. State officials continue to urge residents to be careful if they’re using generators as four people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning and another 141 people have been treated for inhalation since the hurricane. Ida, which made landfall on August 29th as a category 4 hurricane destroyed businesses and neighborhoods, claimed at least 26 lives in Louisiana, 2 in Mississippi and several others in numerous other states as it traveled east.
