One Dead After 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake in Mexico

One person is dead after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the southwest part of Mexico last night. Only one fatality has been reported and it was in the Mexican state of Guerrero but no other significant damage was reported. According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake struck about eight miles from the beach resort city of Acapulco on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. After the initial quake, at least 92 aftershocks were recorded which included one with a 5.2 magnitude. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration initially issued a Tsunami warning but it was called off. Around 1.6 million customers were without electricity in Mexico City and throughout four other states but most of that has since been restored.
